Bopwalk is made by one person. This page says, in plain language, what the app and this website collect and what happens to it.
The Short Version
No accounts, no ads, no analytics or tracking SDKs, nothing sold or handed to advertisers. Everything a walk creates is deleted when the walk ends, and within 48 hours at the very latest.
What Bopwalk Stores About You
- A device ID. A random UUID your device generates the first time you open the app. It is not an advertising identifier and it is not tied to your Apple or Google account. Deleting the app breaks the link for good.
- A display name. Whatever you type when you create or join a walk. A nickname works fine; nothing verifies it.
- Walk membership. Which walk a device ID joined, its role in that walk, and whether it is connected right now. This lives in that one walk and disappears with it.
Location
Location sharing is off until you switch it on, and when you switch it on you choose how long it lasts (up to three hours). While it is running, your coordinates and their accuracy are relayed to the other people on the same walk so you appear on the walk map. Coordinates are kept only long enough to draw that map, they are cleared when your timer runs out, and you can stop sharing at any moment. Bopwalk keeps no location history, and no coordinates survive the end of a walk.
Audio You Add
Files you upload, including voice broadcasts, are stored under a random, unguessable key belonging to that walk. They are deleted when the owner ends the walk, and any walk still running is cleaned up automatically 48 hours after it started. Podcasts and YouTube items are only links: that audio streams from those services and never touches Bopwalk storage.
YouTube
YouTube items play inside YouTube’s own embedded player. Once that player loads, YouTube may set cookies and collect data under Google’s privacy policy and the YouTube Terms of Service. That part is between you and YouTube. Bopwalk only passes along the video ID.
Spotify
Spotify music cannot be played through Bopwalk, because Spotify does not allow it. Bopwalk never connects to a Spotify account.
Purchases
Bopwalk Plus is sold by Apple and Google, not by me, so I never see your payment details. To check whether a subscription is active, the app sends the store’s signed receipt to the Bopwalk server, which verifies the signature and records an anonymous entitlement (an identifier derived from the receipt, the product, and the expiry date). It is not linked to your name or your store account.
This Website
bopwalk.com runs on Cloudflare. It sets no cookies, loads no third-party scripts, and runs no analytics. Cloudflare processes ordinary request logs (IP address, user agent) to serve traffic and block abuse, as any host does.
Children
Bopwalk is not aimed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect anything from them.
Your Choices
Leave a walk to drop off its roster. Stop location sharing to clear your coordinates. Delete the app to throw away the device ID; once every walk it joined has ended or expired, nothing about it is left. If you want something deleted sooner, email me and I will do it by hand.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes with it.
